Monday
fun things i've done this month:
petted a pig.
watch a goat eat someone's belt while they were still wearing it.
got a sweet ace face painting.
went horseback riding.
moved home.
went on my first run in like a bajillion years.
got a tan. or more freckles.
learned to wakeboard.
rode jetskiis.
tried to pick up boys.
failed to pick up boys.
hung out with my best friend's little sister and loved every minute.
painted my toenails.
cooked crawdads. (fact: they do not scream.)
camped in a walmart parking lot.
sent off my first missionary.
saw a man wearing mascara.
shopped!
spent another week at echo lake :)
laughed and laughed until i cried.
figured out my life.
ate out for every meal..three days straight.
ate ribs for 3 consecutive suppers.
camped.
hot tubbed.
hiked the shortest hike of my life.
read lots and lots of books.
saw my breath. (cause its suckin cold!)
walked my dogs.
bought my first piece of artwork.
blow-dried my hair four times. the whole month of august.
got a job at chopstix. haha.
mailed off my application for assisting school.
renewed my library card.
ate cheesecake pancakes.
watched a movie in which shaq plays a genie.
made a frickin sweet playlist.
i guess this summer didnt turn out too badly, did it?

Tuesday
cruel, cruel summer
tuesday, august 10th. summer is nearly complete..i love summer. love love love it. but right now i cant help but feel as though i have wasted it. not so much in the 'i havent accomplished anything this summer' department because i dont care about that too much. come on. its summertime, who gets anything done? no. i mean in the 'have i really done anything fun this summer? have i done anything that will make this summer memorable? that will make me look back and think 'oh yeah, summer '10 was spectacular'?'
no. i fear i have not.
sure, my last post may suggest otherwise. to tell you the truth, those are the only fun, memory-making things that i have done. the realization of this makes me doubt the path that i sought this summer. i'm beginning to question why i stuck around in leth, why i didnt work somewhere fun and exotic like, say...waterton. i knew that i wanted to, but i just never did. while debating my work/social plans for the fairer months, reason won out. the little misguided angel on my shoulder convinced me that summer in deathbridge would be a far more enjoyable and profitable experience. what do i have to show for it? nothing. my social calendar is embarrassingly bare, my phone is ever silent (with the exception of texts from my mother), and i dont have a decent tan. im really stressing about this, people.
to solve this problem, i guess i need to analyze why it is a problem in the first place. why havent i had a crazy good time this summer?
exhibit a: i moved to the west side in may. this is generally when all fun, crazy youth return home. not saying that there arent still fun and crazy people on the west side. the fun and crazy crowd are all bonded together already and such and its not easy to force your way into such things.
exhibit b: the vast majority of my (west side) friends moved home, went on missions, got married etc. my other friends did the same things.
exhibit c: i worked. (part time, which you think would leave the window of fun opportunities wide open..nope.)
exhibit d: i played club rugby which is awesome and great by the way! but it takes up your weekends like nobody's business, so no saturday trips to waterton and bc and other fun places :(
exhibit e: i had a boyfriend throughout the school year..and we broke up in may (the month in which, if you remember, everyone leaves.) while this (dating, i mean,) in itself is an opportunity to meet and become friends with all of said boyfriend's friends, it ostracized me from my friends and nullified most opportunities to meet/become bonded with fun and crazy youth. (see exhibit a.) i ultimately set my self up for social failure.
these factors, coupled with some serious upheaval of life plans, has left me doubtful and unsure, the most i have ever been. with no solid plans for fall, nothing to work towards, i feel lost and without a purpose really. i guess i was able to blame my weak sauce summer on the fact that i was saving and preparing for hygiene school in the fall. with that rug pulled from under my feet, i just feel lame and inadequate and unsure of myself. what a disappointing summer.
i apologize for the overall dispirited-ness of this post. and i guess i never really came up with a solution for all of this did i? blast.

ah summer. how i love thee. it has been decided that i need to live in a place of perpetual summer, a place where i can play and soak up the sun (with proper spf, of course) all day long. two such places?
arizona:

fresh off the plane from the great white north. (note the cute little plane..cuter and littler in real life.)

ginger skin + tanning lotion x prolonged sun exposure= sunburn. (this picture doesn't do it justice..)

east glacier.

oh just some pretty sweet lookin' clouds.
as fun as this trip was, it didnt go by without regrets:

things i love about arizona:
1. the heat. it felt like thousands of blow dryers were blowing on you all the time..perfect. it got up to 115 one of the days we were there!
2. the desert. i think its so beautiful! and so different from alberta.
3. the cleanliness! i couldnt believe how clean phoenix and mesa were.
4. the little ninos! mexican children are adorable! especially the one i saw in a leash in the mall. where can i get a nino on a leash?
other pleasing sights include actual mall cops on actual segways giving each other high fives and 5 inch monster bugs crawling on amy's feet..God bless America.

mistake #1: stopping in browning for a potty break. i wasn't aware that this gem of a town was on a reserve, although i should have clued in when everyone stared at me as i walked to and from the gas station. i'm pretty sure i was the only white person not safely secured in a vehicle within an eighteen mile radius..that was probably the quickest stop i have ever made.
mistake #2: forgoing the sun protectant for the first three days of the trip. my nose became exceedingly red and burnt, therefore emphasizing the largeness thereof..blast.
mistake #3: going to the lake in the first place..because now i never want to leave :(

Monday
so i swalled a bug while longboarding.
one of the countless glorious things that can happen when engaging in said activity. i love it (longboarding, not swallowing the bug) for several reasons:
a) its kind of peaceful when its just you, your board, and your ipod. (and justin bieber, in my case). its a time to think and to clear your mind and mull things over.
b) its one of those activities thats just difficult enough to engage your body so you feel like youre working your muscles without really having to do anything.
c) i learn not to take myself too seriously when longboarding cause im really not that good. the ability to laugh at yourself when you do something wrong and make a fool of yourself is a vital one, albeit difficult to develop..boarding helps with that slow developmental process.
d) when i longboard it feels like im snowboarding. ive never done the latter..so i feel cool when i pretend that im carving. i like to think i'd be okay at it.
longboarding is a people magnet. have you ever noticed that? guaranteed nine out of ten cars that drove past me stared me down the whole time..people are drawn to a longboarder. they probably automatically assume youre really, really cool. dont believe me? the next time you see a longboarder, check your reaction. are you checking them out? gotcha.
one peeve that i have about boarding is the infallibility of my clumsiness when others are around. when its just me, i carve like a pro and rarely lose my balance. as soon as someone rounds the corner, its like his or her presence throws off the delicate balance i have managed to so delicately maintain. and i fall. everytime. lets hope i grow out of this stage asap.
